*Where are you from? Tell us a bit about yourself.
I am from MA but moved to Chicago five years ago for graduate school. I finished an MA in Religion and am now working at a local university and crafting in my spare time.
*How did you decide on your shop name? Why did you start your business?
Fantasticrafts was inspired by the brilliant writer, Richard Lawson from Gawker.com. He used the word "fantasticastle" once and that inspired my shop name. When I decided to have a bridal shop as well, I asked my facebook friends what the name should be. One of my close pals stepped up to the plate and had lots of great ideas. It was hard to choose, but Vibrant Vows won in the end.
I started selling on Etsy in 2009 because word got out around work that I make jewelry and people kept asking if I had a website. I started posting items on there just so my coworkers could see them and decide what items they wanted but my involvement on Etsy has really evolved since then. I started the bridal shop after getting a few commissions from co-workers (they're such great supporters!) and as I was looking for inspiration online, I was shocked by how expensive bridal jewelry was. I saw that there was definitely a market for affordable handmade products.
*What’s your supply addiction; is there a specific color or type of supply you just can’t pass up?
My supply addiction is cute metal charms and anything with a religious theme. The problem with the religious themed supplies is that I love them so much I hoard them after purchasing! I have all kinds of great medallions and crucifix charms but can't bring myself to part with them yet.
*Which item in your shop did you enjoy making the most and why?
The item I am most proud of is the Pearl and Crystal Small Vine Cob: http://www.etsy.com/listing/38737175/pearl-and-crystal-small-vine-comb. It was the first bridal comb I made and I'm happy with how it turned out. It was pretty difficult and took a long time to make, but it inspired me to start more challenging projects.
*Are there other places on the net we can find you?
My facebook fan page is for my two shops and my friend's knitting shop (Perknitious): http://www.facebook.com/#!/pages/Fantasticrafts/115568131787244?ref=ts.
We collaborate on a lot of projects together and are currently working on an application for a shared shop at Renegade Chicago. I don't have a blog, but she does, and my projects and activities are often detailed on there as well: http://kniterrant.blogspot.com/
