Whenever I come across a wonderful shop like The Crafty Tortoise I have the earning for Grandchildren! Melissa has the cutest hats, headbands and clippies for little girls, though some of the hats could be worn by boys :) She also has really wonderful doilies, scrubbies and wash cloths! Can never have to many.

*Where are you from? Tell us a bit about yourself.
I am from Indianapolis, IN. I am 24 and have been crocheting for over 10 years now! I am married to a wonderful man who supports my creativity and without him I would probably not be in business.

*How did you decide on your shop name? Why did you start your business?
My shop name was actually really easy to come up with. I have always been obsessed with turtles and tortoises. (like those crazy people at the zoo who stare at them for hours... that was/is me) So The Crafty Tortoise just seemed to fit!
I started my business mainly because my husband keep telling me to sell my crocheted items. They just sat around before. Now they get homes!

*What/Who inspires you?
I get inspired by nature all the time! I am so amazed by it and I think it shows in my work.

*What’s your supply addiction; is there a specific color or type of supply you just can’t pass up?
My addiction... isn't it obvious. YARN! I love it. I love all types, all colors. It is just so wonderful. Whenever I go to the craft store I have to hold myself back from buying all the yarn in the store. Homespun is definitely my favorite. I have actually spun some of my own.

*If you had time to learn any other craft/art - what would it be?
Knitting! I so want to figure out knitting. It is so beautiful but for some reason I cannot figure it out!

*What do you do when you’re not being an artist? What activities do you enjoy?
Lol, my husband would tell you I am never not an artist. I enjoy the outdoors a lot. Especially when it is warm outside! We go to the park almost everyday to take a small hike through the woods. It really unwinds you.
Oh man... that is so hard. I really enjoy making a lot of things. Working with cotton cording to make my doily rug and the centerpiece was really really fun. I also enjoy making anything that I can wear, but somehow those never make it to my site.
