I don't wear a lot of jewelry as a rule - but this shop has me thinking I might start :) Gleeful Peacock has some truly beautiful necklaces! This is the perfect name for this wonderfully colorful shop - just take a look!
*Where are you from? Tell us a bit about yourself.
I was born and raised in Utah, but I currently reside in Tulsa Oklahoma. I live with my husband of almost eleven years and my 8 year old daughter. We move here about 4 years ago so that my husband could attend law school. Now we love it here in T-town!
*How did you decide on your shop name? Why did you start your business?
I was a colorful and cheerful child. I marched to my own beat, had my own style, I was artistic and I was happy. For some reason I spent my twenties trying to blend in and be a good grown up. That meant wearing what everyone told me was 'in' and letting my artistic ways lay dormant and climbing a corporate ladder. When I turned 30 I realized I had lost who I was. I wanted to get back to me. So I started making my own accessories and jewelry that expressed my new developing sense of style. The next thing I knew I was selling my items. When it came time to really pick a name I knew I wanted it to be about being colorful, happy, expressing yourself, and being meaningful. I wrote down all of the adjectives and words that represented what I wanted to create. Two of the words that struck me were Gleeful and Peacock. I had people tell me they did not like it. But now I get tons of compliments on it and people seem to really understand my point of view when they hear the name. I am so happy that I chose it and stuck with my vision!
*What or who inspires you?
I am most inspired by nature and my surroundings. I really believe in letting your art and work flow. I view life as being filled with serendipitous events. It keeps you present and grateful if you assume that there are things to be seen and events to notice all around you. I might see an amazing pink blossom tree that stands out in front of an old large twisted gray tree. The colors together are beautiful. The next time I create I find myself combining the two colors together. If I happen to get the most amazing raspberries that week that I truly enjoy while sitting in the grass, then I will probably be mixing up some deep raspberry tones and mixing it with some grassy green tones in a necklace later that week.
*What do you like about being a seller?
I love meeting new people. I truly enjoy emailing or talking to customers. It is amazing to connect to other people out there that are unique and creating amazing lives for themselves. It is also great to know that maybe I am creating something that speaks to them and makes them smile, or that something I create is a part of a special moment in their lives. I jsut created a whole line for a wedding. I cant believe that I get to be a part of that day for someone.
*What’s your supply addiction; is there a specific color or type of supply you just can’t pass up?
My husband would say I am addicted to all supplies. Getting a package of supplies in the mail is like Christmas for me! What I am most addicted to changes week to week. One week I am obsessed with supplies to make rings and the next it will be necklaces. As far as color is concerned, well I have to hold back on the turquoise. It is my go to color and I am so drawn to it. I have worked in my studio for hours and then I looked down at my try of painted items and everything is a hue of turquoise!
*What do you do when you’re not being an artist? What activities do you enjoy?
I have an 8 year old girl, and I love hanging out with her. Her sense of humor amuses me more then anything else in the world! We love to read together, play games or just snuggle and talk. I am also very lucky to have many friends. So I usually don't have a weekend without a BBQ, birthday party or some get together to attend. I am happy to say I have filled my life with friends and fun.
*Which item in your shop did you enjoy making the most and why?
I love this locket! http://www.etsy.com/listing/47491441/vintage-brass-locket-with-flowers-and because it is so colorful and bold. I know that the person that owns it will probably be fun, outgoing and have a bold style. I get excited to meet the people that own my pieces. I like to see if they match what the person I envisioned when I made it.
I like making sweater clips because not everyone makes them. They are made from vintage pieces so every single one is a one of a kind piece. Plus I love to know that I am helping bring these cute things back!
*Are there other places on the net we can find you?
Sure thing! I always give my FB and twitter friends the first looks at new items and the best deals!
