I envy anyone who can take amazing photos. Especially photo's of flowers! LOVE flowers. Here is an amazing Photography shop with a wonderful give away!
*Where are you from? Tell us a bit about yourself.
I was born and raised in Manitoba, Canada and have lived here all my life. =) It's a really beautiful Province with really pronounced seasons. We get the extremes of all four seasons, which is incredible for a photographer as nature keeps changing and providing new and beautiful things to take pictures of!
I am a University Student focusing on getting a degree in Education in the next few years. While I am going to school to be a teacher, I hope one day to be able to be a full time portrait photographer, and sell Fine Art Photographs online. When I am not taking pictures, I'm probably planning my wedding that is one year away almost to the date! =) I have always loved creating. When I was little my mom taught me how to knit, and crochet, and how to make all sorts of things down to pop up cards out of construction paper. I remember being four years old and sitting outside knitting all day. I got my first camera when I was 13 and I absolutely loved taking pictures with it. It was a little point and shoot film camera, you know, the kind where you would have to wait for the flash to charge? And pretty much since then I have loved taking all kinds of pictures! Anything from nature, to artistic, to portraits, all of it.
*How did you decide on your shop name? Why did you start your business?
I wanted my shop name to be something simple that people could remember, and wouldn't sound silly when you said it out loud. I figured using my name would work well.
I had wanted to get a DSLR camera for probably a little over a year before I finally convinced myself that it was more of a need than a want, and I bought my camera! I started learning all kinds of new skills and techniques and was practicing every single day. Eventually I realized that I wanted to make photography more of a business for me and not just a hobby. I decided to open up a shop on etsy specifically because my sister opened up a jewelry shop a little over six months before that and said she really liked that it was not only a way to sell quality product, but it was also a really supportive community, so I decided that was probably the best option for me.
*What or who inspires you?
I find most of my inspiration in nature. =) Every time I see a field of flowers, or a flower with a striking colour, or even a group of birds sitting on an electrical wire, I have to take a picture. I find most of my inspiration for portraits usually when I am reading a wedding magazine, and you see the beautiful photographs of Brides in their dresses, or with their new husbands. It's just such an exciting time for all involved, and I just think it would be such a wonderful experience to be able to photograph those once in a lifetime moments for them.
*What are 5 things you want people to think when they see your product?
When people see my Artistic photography I hope they think my photos are elegant, romantic, practical, creative and original. I want them to be practical enough that they wouldn't find it hard to decorate any room with one of my photographs, but I want them to be creative enough, that they would want to decorate with them.
*What’s your supply addiction; is there a specific color or type of supply you just can’t pass up?
The two kinds of supplies that I have a hard time leaving in the store are new lenses, and new backgrounds. I'm still building my collection of different lenses, and I hope to get several muslin backgrounds soon, but haven't been able to get too much yet simply because of the costs. However, every time I go into a photography store I always find myself trying to change my budget around, and make everything just a little bit tighter, if I could just have that new lens a little bit sooner.
*What do you do when you’re not being an artist? What activities do you enjoy?
Other than doing photography I love to read, mostly fiction novels (currently working on “Wicked” by Gregory Maguire) and I also like to write stories. I've liked to write fiction novels since I was quite young, but have never actually finished an entire manuscript. Maybe one day though! I also love to hang out with my sisters and go shopping.
*Which item in your shop did you enjoy making the most and why?
I think the photograph that I had the most fun taking would have been my “Ferry Boat” photo. This was probably the most fun to take because I got to go to the marketplace in my area that has all kinds of little shops and places to eat, and went up to the top of the main building where they have a viewing point for you to see the whole marketplace at once from very high up, and I got a picture of this Ferry Boat. Then I took it home and edited it to look a little bit more vintage, and edited it to make it look like I used a “Tilt Shift” lens. It was a good time.
*Are there other places on the net we can find you?
Other than going on Etsy I am on twitter all the time, and I love adding new people so you can find me there:
And I also blog all the time. I try to have a new post every single day.
