Armee has a beautiful shop: Maya's Kalupi.
She was born and raised in the Philippines. Armee and her husband moved here in the U.S last March of 2007. She is currently living in Henderson Nevada with her husband and their adorable baby Maya. Armee has a wonderful Blog.
1. How did you decide on your shop name?
I decided to name my shop from my now 4 month old and only daughter Maya. Actually, her full name is Malaya but we call her Maya. Kalupi is a Filipino word that means wallet/purse. So, since I'll be offering wristlets and purses on my shop I have decided that Maya's Kalupi would be a nice name for a shop.
2. When did you start crafting?
I started crafting on a really young age. My mother taught me how to sew at the age of 9 or 10 along with my 2 other sister. My mother had a small home business where she's the one making and selling baby shirts and shorts. Also, when I was in 4th grade I used to buy plastic headbands, put embellishment on them and I would sell them to my classmates.
I would like to try crocheting. I know a little bit of it but still need to learn a lot. I would love to make cute baby shoes and hopefully sell it also here on etsy and of course to create something that my baby girl can wear. I saw one etsy seller who sells really cute crochet baby shoes patterns that's why I'm inspired to learn more on crocheting.
4. What or who inspires you?
My husband and our baby Maya inspires me in everything I do and in every decision I am making in life.
5. Do you have a day job?
Now, I don't have a day job. I am a stay home mom since August of 2008. I was 3 months pregnant then when I was laid off from work. I used to work on a bakeshop at Imperial Palace Hotel in Las Vegas as a Baker's Helper. Yup, I know how to bake and before migrating with my husband here in U.S from the Philippines I used to work as a Pastry Cook in one business hotel in Makati, also in Manila Philippines. Baking is really my passion....I miss baking and I miss having a day job. I can still bake but I can't afford to have a day job because I'm the one taking care of our baby that's why I opened an etsy store, to keep myself busy and to earn some extra money.
6. What is the item in your shop you enjoyed making the most and why?
I enjoy making wristlets and the pixie bag. They are so easy to make and I love how it looks after I finished sewing one. I do enjoy coordinating 2 different fabrics for the items I'm making on my shop.
