AND THE WINNER IS:
You have never seen jewelry like this! Gorgeous Karma has some of the most elaborate and stunning jewelry I have seen. This is my 2nd give away for this shop and the shop is getting better with each one!
*Where are you from? Tell us a bit about yourself.
I am from India (Delhi). I am a work-at-home mamma of a 4.5 year old girl. I am very passionate about bringing my child up in a creative, playful learning environment fostered by music, books, art and craft and travel. Besides this chunk of time that I spend with her, I learn music (Hindustani Classical) too, write a blog, read a lot, indulge in photography, run the house and yes - run a business. My endeavour - GorgeousKarma - is an online store via which I sell traditional and contemporary jewelry and handspun Pashminas, Cashmere, Ikat Shawls/Stoles. I conceptualize all my items and get these made by artisans from across India. It's also an attempt to showcase the work of Indian artists. India has a rich culture of handmade work and I wish to bring all those in front of the lovers of the handmade across the world. Each and every item in my store is unique and tells a story and that, I feel, makes GorgeousKarma so unique. :)
*How did you decide on your shop name? Why did you start your business?
Ever since I was a child, I have loved the whole process of conceptualizing, drawing and creating. My younger brother and I would spend summer vacations creating walls decorations, photo frames, ornamental boxes etc out of waste material. Then, it was just a hobby. never thought of pursuing it seriously to make something more tangible out of it. I did Masters in Mass Communication and Advertising. I Was fascinated by advertising and the fact that one can tell a compelling story within a matter of seconds. I stayed in job for 7 years. But all this while, I was more and more drawn toward starting something of my own. This became possible after my baby was born. I did not want to leave her in daycare for a 9-6 job. I was also bored with a corporate job by now. There were lots of ideas cooking in my brain. And that's when and that's how Gorgeous Karma was born.
The brand name or shop name - Gorgeous Karma stemmed from the belief that my business is not just an enterprise but an endeavor for great work or karma that I want to do in my lifetime. Gorgeous Karma may not be limited to just selling jewelry. I basically want to bring about a positive change in my life and possibly influence lives of others by doing small but meaningful things - like - write about natural health, ecofriendly living through my blog, sponsor education for uneducated poor children in my country, advocate ecofriendly lifestyle amongst friends, family and community. Hence, instead of naming 'Gorgeous Jewelry' or something like that which probably may have been more 'search-engine' friendly, I named it Gorgeous Karma relying on my gut-feel and ideas that I want to pursue :)
*What or who inspires you?
I draw inspiration from the fact that we have one life and we must live it in an extraordinary way. Extraordinary - not in the sense of success or wealth or name and fame, but from an aspect of creative fulfillment, happiness, impacting the world positively and living without any regrets. I feel really inspired by nature, music, art, books and yes - travel.
What are 5 things you want people to think when they see your product?
I wish that when people see my products, they feel they have virtually traveled to my country, feel a connection with the artists, andwhen they wear, they feel special, they feel like they are wearing a piece of the heritage. And most essentially, I want them to feel that they have got this from me with genuine love and care.
