Sea Babe Boutique is an amazing jewelry shop on Etsy. Kristin has some beautiful necklaces, earrings, bracelets and rings. And she even carries some gold filled jewelry!!! (I can't wear silver).
Where are you from? Tell us a bit about yourself.
I am originally from Orange County, California, but have lived in Hawaii for almost 4 years now. After graduating college from Chapman University in Orange with a BA in Advertising, I moved out to the North Shore on an adventure. The novelty of saying "I live in Hawaii" was always very appealing to me, and believe me, this place lives up to it's reputation. There is always something fun and outdoorsy to do here and getting to walk across the street to the beach isn't half bad either. I've learned to surf since being here, and found my love of diving for shells as well. I can see the waves from my desk and being able to look out the window at them sometimes keeps me sane.
*How did you decide on your shop name? Why did you start your business?
Our shop name came about one night while David and I were brainstorming. We knew we wanted something to do with the ocean or beach since most of my items were going to be somewhat beach inspired. Also, the fact that they would be handmade in Hawaii needed to fit it. David thought first about "Babe of the Sea" but realized that it sounded too much like "Chicken of the Sea!" HAHA! We switched it around and "Sea Babe" caught on right away. We started our Etsy shop as a hobby, but soon realized that we had found our calling. We both LOVE making jewelry and what better place to sell than Etsy.
*What or who inspires you?
I personally am inspired by trends I love, ethnic fashion, and beach culture. I also love anything luxe/posh looking. My pieces end up being for both day and night and I have quite a range of materials that I work with, from rough diamonds and gold, to fun carved stone beads. David is a real inspiration on the business end. He has a great mind for it and is always giving me tips on how to improve my business.
*What do you like about being a seller?
My favorite thing about being a seller is getting to actually see someone wear a piece of mine and hear that they've received compliments and are happy with it. I sell at our local Eco-Friendly Haleiwa Farmer's Market on the weekend and it's there that I really get to connect with local customers and get great feedback. As far as Etsy sales go, I think it is the coolest feeling to check your shop and see that I've gotten a sale. Also, to know that I can have my shop open 24/7 is a great feeling.
*What’s your supply addiction; is there a specific color or type of supply you just can’t pass up?
Oooo, I just love gemstones. My favorite thing to do is shop for gemstones at the gem show. There are rows and rows of all different stones in nice long strands. I have quite a collection going right now.
*If you had time to learn any other craft/art - what would it be?
I would love to get into sewing. David bought me a brand new sewing machine for my birthday and I have yet to really break it in. I always admire the crocheting and knitting people do on Etsy. All the great scarves and blankets look so cozy.
*What do you do when you’re not being an artist? What activities do you enjoy?
Right now, Sea Babe is pretty much a full time operation. Between convos and sending out orders, we have a lot on our plate right now. However, we love going shelling at our local beach with our snorkels and also body surfing. I love running with my ipod and playing guitar hero. Anything carefree and outdoors is fun for me! We also have big plans to do some International traveling.
*Which item in your shop did you enjoy making the most and why?
I really love the Rockstar Black Rough Diamond Earrings. They are HOT! I love rough diamonds and these are huge black ones! The dangling chains are also totally my style. These are in my personal collection and I will be making similar pieces in the future!
